The pieces in this book come from English tablatures for the lute, bandora and lyra viol. They have been selected for their musical qualities and their suitability for transcription onto the guitar.
No alterations have been made to the music except for two chord settings in the Thomas Robinson Gigue (the original settings are given) and the correction of two errors in the tablatures for the Quadro Pavin Galliard and Henrie Read’s Saraband. Explanatory notes and sources are given at the end of the book.
I would like to acknowledge the help received in preparation of this book from John H Robinson of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, the Lute Society of Great Britain and Christopher Susans of the European Guitar Teachers Association (UK)
